Search Engine Guide

Search Engine Guide (SEG) — The directory of more than three thousand subject-specific engines
(http://www.searchengineguide.com/searchengines.html) is helpful when the
major search engines are not providing the right answers. Sometimes it’s better
to narrow down the source to a topical directory of search features. This directory
is broken down into subcategories, and all of the links are annotated (a
must for any librarian). There is also a section entitled “Search Engine News,” which
addresses the new search engines.Second, and more important, is the free e-mail newsletter that provides
up-to-date news on all aspects of the search engine industry (http://www.searchengineguide.com/subscribe.html). Because
SEG also markets itself as all encompassing, sometimes the user has to sift
through numerous postings to get to the useful information, but it is well
worth it.
