Academic Earth – Video Sharing

Academic Earth (www.academicearth.org) could be a student’s best source. The site offers free access to video courses and academic lectures from leading colleges and universities in one educational repository. Anyone can watch the same full-length lectures for free. New videos are added every day by college professors. Lecture videos can be browsed in four different ways: subjects, universities, instructors, or playlists (http://www.academicearth.org/about). I recommend this resource for any student struggling with algebra, physics, and so on.

iPad Apps

Helpful resources for students and teachers:

  1. 3D Brain. The 3D Brain app would be useful of any student studying brain structures and functions, brain injuries, or mental illness. A student can zoom and rotate the brain. The app includes case studies and links to additional resources.
  2. arXiv. Cornell University Library has created an app based on their arXiv.org website. arXiv provides scholarly publications in physics, mathematics, computer science, biology, and statistics.
  3. iTunes U. This app has more than half a million college lectures, videos, books, and other resources available to the world. Subscriptions to specific courses require logging in with an Apple ID.
  4. Merriam-Webster Dictionary. This app offers voice search. Students can just speak the word they want to spell or define.
